Well Control Level 2: Drilling Operations & Blowout Prevention

Certification Overview
-
Issued By: National Iranian Drilling Company (NIDC) – Training & Workforce Development Management
-
Date Earned: April 2022
-
Duration: 32 Hours (Intensive Workshop)
-
Location: Ahvaz, Iran
The Strategic Value
“Mastery of well pressure management and blowout prevention to safeguard assets and personnel in critical drilling operations.”
This certification attests to the ability to maintain control of the wellbore under pressure, a fundamental requirement for any drilling engineer.
Professional Context: Why This Skill Matters
Having gained field experience at Rig 303 (Hur al-Azim) and Rig 56 Fath (Ahvaz), I recognized early on that understanding reservoir pressure dynamics is the difference between a successful operation and a catastrophe.
My objective in completing this advanced course at the NIDC Training Center was to move beyond theory and master the practical techniques of shutting in a well. This ensures the protection of human life and high-value drilling assets during unexpected influxes.
Core Competencies & Technical Skills
This 32-hour specialized course focused on the following critical operational areas:
-
Kick Detection: Proficiency in identifying early warning signs of formation fluid influx (Kick) into the wellbore.
-
Pressure Calculations: Accurate calculation of Shut-In Drill Pipe Pressure (SIDPP) and Shut-In Casing Pressure (SICP) to determine formation pressure.
-
Equipment Mastery: In-depth knowledge of the BOP (Blowout Preventer) Stack, choke manifolds, and hydraulic control units.
-
Well Killing Methods: Execution of standard well control procedures, specifically the Driller’s Method and the Wait & Weight Method.
Applied Impact: Consistency & Research
Commitment to Continuous Safety:
This certification was a strategic update to my previous training (originally certified in 2017–2018). Maintaining valid, up-to-date Well Control certification demonstrates my unyielding commitment to safety standards over the years.
Academic Synergy:
The deep understanding of downhole pressure dynamics gained here provided the engineering backbone for my 2022 research papers, particularly in Artificial Lift Systems and Geomechanical Modeling.
Verification
Issuing Authority: NIDC Training & Workforce Development Directorate.
Validation: Bearing the official seal and signature of the Head of Training.
This certificate is verifiable through the National Iranian Drilling Company.
